The Renfrew Story
Family values and an independent spirit
Renfrew Insurance Ltd. was conceived in 1948 as the vision of Jack Edelson. Jack’s father wanted his son to work at his stock brokerage office but Jack was eager to follow his own path and pursue the opportunities in the growing city of Calgary. He struck out on his own and created Edelson Insurance, a company shaped by his independent streak and entrepreneurial vision – a vision that continued to grow as Jack strengthened his knowledge of the insurance business and customer service.
Jack established a set of core principles that still guide how the company does business today:

- Attention to detail
- Prompt, accurate service
- Knowledge of insurance products
An independent man’s vision of the insurance potential in Calgary became Renfrew Insurance Ltd., one of the largest commercial insurance brokerages in Western Canada with clients throughout the country and the world. Renfrew now boasts nearly 100 insurance specialists, most with over ten (and in many cases over 20) years of service to the company.
